I Built Hive Post Grabber Because I Was Tired of Scrolling
Ever try to find a Hive post you wrote a few years ago?
You remember writing it. You remember a word or two from the title. You want to link to it in something you’re writing now, so you open your profile and start scrolling.
And scrolling.
I wanted those links in one place so I could find things and reuse them. So I putzed around and built Hive Post Grabber. A simple tool to do one annoying job.
You can try it here: Hive Post Grabber.
Put in a username. Get the posts.
Enter any Hive username and click Get all posts.
Your own username, someone else’s, with or without the
@.
The posts start appearing in one list and keep loading automatically. You can start looking through them while the rest arrive.
Once you’ve got some posts to work with, you can:
- Search the titles for words you remember.
- Narrow the list down by year and month.
- Sort from newest to oldest, or go back to the beginning.
- Open a post in a separate reading tab without losing your place in the list.
- Select several posts and copy their links as Markdown, ready to paste into another post.
That last one is something I wanted for myself. Sometimes I’m writing something new and want to link back to a few older articles. Sometimes I just want a list of things I’ve written about a particular subject. Finding the posts and collecting the links shouldn’t take up the whole afternoon.
It works for other people’s public posts, too. If you remember who wrote something, their username gives you somewhere to start.
The list includes authored posts. Replies and reblogs aren’t included.
Give the bigger archives a little time
If you’ve been posting for years, there may be quite a bit to fetch. The list grows as the posts come in, and there’s a circular progress indicator beside the username. The percentage is an estimate while loading, so don’t treat it as a countdown.
Search works on the posts loaded so far. If you’re hunting for something old, let loading finish so you’re searching the full archive available through the Hive API.
You can stop and resume. Your browser can save the post summaries and loading progress on that device, so you don’t have to start from scratch every time. Refresh merges results with your saved list, and Clear saved data removes that account’s local copy.
You don’t need to log in or provide any keys to look up posts. The tool doesn’t post or vote for you.
That’s why I built it
Writing takes time. Once I’ve put that time into a post, I’d like to be able to find it again, link to it, and get some more use out of it.
That’s really all I wanted here. Put in a username, find the writing, grab the links, and get on with whatever I was doing.
Give Hive Post Grabber a try. If it helps you dig up something you’d forgotten about, let me know. I’d like to hear what you find.
And if anything on the site is useful to you, there’s a Donate button for sending a little HIVE or HBD to @kendewitt. It helps keep me putzing around and building things.
Cheers!
